Abstract
Inspection process including detection of defects is a key to assure the improvement in performance of production procedures at industrial plants. Cooperation among inspectors within an inspection team contributes to effectiveness of the team. However, it is significant to obtain an appropriate team structure factoring in each individual's knowledge, skill set, experience, and communication style. In this paper the performance of an inspection team (individuals and subgroups) and different structures of the aforementioned team are studied. The impact of quality of inspectors employed in an inspection team, as well as optimum size of the team as two significant factors are analyzed from the perspective of how they affect the effectiveness of an inspection process. Additionally, a model of inspection performance is formulated and simulated in order to investigate how those two factors interact with each other. Finally, a mathematical model is proposed to predict the performance of an inspection team.
