Management of Psychiatric Symptoms in Medically III Patients in the Homecare Setting
Critical care nursing clinics of North America, v 10(3), pp 315-326
Sep 1998
Abstract
The escalating cost of health care and innovations in clinical practice have moved patients out of acute care settings and into the community for subacute treatment and management of their illness. Nurses with critical care knowledge and experience increasingly provide technologically advanced care to patients at home, who often manifest co-morbid psychiatric symptoms. This article discusses common, acute psychiatric symptoms in medically ill patients, and provides the knowledge necessary to manage and stabilize the psychiatric symptoms in collaboration with advanced practice psychiatric nurses.
