Abstract
The incidence of neurologic complications in patients with infective endocarditis has changed little over time, despite the changing epidemiologic and etiologic spectrum in this disease. The availability of new modalities has improved one’s ability to determine valvular damage in infective carditis, and advancements in radiologic imaging have improved one’s ability to diagnose neurologic complications. It is hoped that early diagnostic and therapeutic interventions will prevent the appearance of devastating neurologic complications in patients with infective carditis.
