Abstract
Nosocomial pneumonia remains a challenging problem in critically ill patients. The clinical picture may be confusing because of other concurrent diseases. Diagnosis and identification of the etiologic organism often require invasive procedures. Empiric therapy is often necessary and should be designed on the basis of preliminary laboratory results and the clinical setting.
