Abstract

Emotional Adjustment Human Self-Analysis Self-Concept
Reviews the book, Self-Directed Behavior: Self-Modification for Personal Adjustment (5th ed.) by David L. Watson and Roland G. Tharp (see record 1989-97004-000). The stated goal of this book is "to acquaint you with a general theory of behavior, to guide you through exercises for developing skills in self-analysis, and to provide you with concrete information on how to achieve the goals you hold for yourself." This volume is comprehensive, systematic, and concise in its approach to self-modification. In essence, this book provides for a detailed self-change manual largely incorporating a cognitive-behavioral perspective. It can be used as an undergraduate text for courses such as "Psychology of Adjustment" and "Behavior Therapy" or as an adjunct text for theories of learning courses.
