Note on the alpha-particle model of 12C
Nuclear physics. A, v 158(2), pp 385-388

Abstract
The binding energy with respect to alpha-particle breakup of
12C, calculated from a three-alpha model with the alpha particles interacting via pairwise soft-core potentials, does not agree with experiment. This tri-particle representation of the ground state of the
A = 12 nuclear system also fails to give the elastic form factor and the experimental rms radius. Although the model is attractive in its conception, we feel that it is too simple to have much physical validity.
