Abstract
Modern technology has played an important role in the education in many fields of engineering, ranging from analysis software to rapid retrieval of information provided by the Internet. However, the use of Natural Interfacing (NI) has been limited due to the complexity, cost, and large space requirements needed to support the operations of this technology. The recent release of Microsoft's XBox Kinect(a) has not only been a boon to the gaming industry, but also has the added, unexpected consequence of opening opportunities in many fields in science and engineering. We report our current results in the exploration of implementing the Kinect as the interface for a pressurized water reactor simulator for educational purposes.
