Abstract

Fractures of the olecranon occur from fall on the elbow or the outstretched hand resulting in eccentric contracture of the triceps musculature and subsequent avulsion of the proximal aspect of the ulna. These fractures are both inherently intra-articular and unstable, and therefore surgical repair is generally indicated. We will present two surgical techniques for the repair of olecranon fractures, including tension band wiring and locking plate constructs.
