Online Training-Can it Prepare an Eldercare Workforce?

Abstract
As a well-prepared eldercare workforce is urgently needed worldwide to provide care for a population aging with complex conditions, developing education strategies has become a public health priority. This article examines the key challenges associated with preparing an eldercare workforce and evaluates the relative advantages of and evidence for online education. Authors also discuss their experiences with a massive online open course (MOOC) on dementia to illustrate the strengths, limitations, and potentiality of online education. Authors conclude that online education is a promising approach, which may optimize training reach and result in cost savings.
