Abstract
[...]this chapter serves as a call to conscious and action for education researchers, practitioners, and teacher educators to realize their own dreams for the educational freedom of all students. [...]we (re)member the freedom dreams of Black women abolitionist teachers and glean from their well of brilliance, wisdom, and joy to inform new generations of teachers and teacher educators to persist in the struggle for change and dream up an education that is equitable and just. Professional development programs have been developed to empower educators to create supportive learning environments for queer students (Payne & Smith, 2011). Schools serving predominantly students of color enact the school-to-prison nexus by employing more police officers than social workers, community activists, and psychologists (Meiners, 2011).
