Oxidation and properties degradation of SiC fibers below 850 degrees C
Journal of Materials Science, Lett, Vol.13(9), pp.680-683

Abstract
Oxidation of the fibers in air resulted in changes of their strength and Young's modulus. When exposed to air, fibers lost strength at 650-830 degrees C, apparently due to the formation of an SiO sub 2 layer on the surface after oxidation.
