Abstract
Music provides proven benefits to health and wellness. Although most published research investigated general populations or patients rather than physicians, the data can be extrapolated and applied to physicians. There is a long history of prominent physician-musicians from numerous medical disciplines. Otolaryngologists are particularly well-suited to incorporate music not only into their lives but also into their practice of medicine. Music produces clear improvements in quality of life and wellness; and participating in musical activities should be studied further and should be encouraged among our colleagues and trainees.
