Prediction of a metastable Y 0 baryon
Canadian journal of physics, v 47(2)

Abstract
On the basis of an empirical mass formula for the baryon octuplet and baryon resonance decuplet, the existence of a metastable [Formula: see text] unitary singlet baryon state with a mass greater than about 2500 MeV is conjectured. Predominantly the I = Y = 0 octuplet member but with a small admixture of the unitary singlet, the Λ baryon would appear as a superposition of the unitary states. The complementary baryon, a metastable [Formula: see text] Y
0
* composed mainly of the unitary singlet, is predicted.
