Abstract
Most laryngology fellowships include training in the diagnosis and treatment of voice disorders in adults and children, neurolaryngology (neurological problems that affect the voice and larynx), swallowing disorders, airway reconstruction, and exposure to or training in other specialties that have an understanding of and interest in arts medicine. Some laryngologists belong to the American Bronchoesophagological Association and the Voice Foundation.4 The Voice Foundation was founded in 1969 and is the oldest organization dedicated to voice education and research. In addition to studying all of the typical subjects one would expect student physicians to master, osteopathic medical students complete approximately 200 additional hours of training in the art of osteopathic manipulative medicine. Osteopathic techniques permit the appropriate arrangement of the laryngeal structures to be restored and to relax and stretch muscles both indirectly and directly connected with phonation. [...]restoration of the correct breathing, muscular balance and proper functional anatomical relations have a key significance for improving the function.
