REPLICATIVE SENESCENCE CAN BE MODULATED BY ALTERATIONS IN NUCLEAR MAP KINASE ACTIVITY

Abstract
An abstract of a study by Tresini et al investigating the biological significance and the mechanism underlying the decreased abundance of active ERK in senescent cell nuclei is presented. Results suggest that impairments of the ERK signalling pathway are in part responsible for the senescent phenotype and support the hypothesis that restoration of nuclear ERK2 activity can temporarily prevent the onset of senescence.
