Abstract

Aging Cells Genotype & phenotype Proteases
An abstract of a study by Torres and Cristofalo on the role of proteasome in the senescent phenotype of human fibroblasts is presented. Results suggest that a major role for proteolysis in regulatory life span, acquires special significance, since observations could explain not only the molecular basis for the lack of responsiveness to mitogens, but more generally, the role of the proteasome in the control of the life span of cells and organisms.
