Reflections on 40 Years of College Teaching: Insights, Goals, and Sighs

Abstract
Teachers need to support, challenge, & respect their students. Seven teaching strategies & six responsibilities of teachers, including providing a model, clarifying complex subjects, & employing up-to-date technologies, are listed. Teaching honors classes, ways to improve teaching, & the practice of public speaking are discussed. In the course of 40 years of teaching, the author learned not to take his students for granted or assume that their concerns were similar to his own. A sample syllabus, assignments, & course evaluation form are attached to illustrate his approach, along with a prior article on his activities as an Applied Sociologist in the Labor Relations field. 5 Appendixes, 52 References.
