Abstract
Kinesthetic cues provided by a step-down response proved effective in improving performance following ECS-produced retrograde amnesia in the rat for a passive-avoidance task. The kinesthetic feedback produced a similar increment in performance for animals that received footshock but not ECS. Although a partial consolidation effect or a generalization hypothesis can not be completely ruled out, results are interpreted in favor of a retrieval failure explanation of ECS-induced amnesia.
