Abstract
This article explores the philosophical foundation of basic self-management and self -care strategies such as assertiveness and mind-body focused stress management techniques that can be used by nurses in challenging work environments. Stoicism, a school of philosophy created more than 2000 years ago by Zeno and refined later by Epictetus, identifies principles and strategies to live an ethical life and to be the best that you can be on your own terms.
