Abstract
Low phase noise RF oscillator is very important in modern communication systems and opto-electronic oscillator techniques have achieved superior phase noise. Development and characterisation of coupled symmetric multimode multi-section semiconductor laser pairs are reported for building a chip level RF oscillator. The symmetric laser structure operation is adjusted to achieve a self-mode locking of five modes at 26.4 GHz inter-modal oscillation frequency with the phase noise performance of −92 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset frequency.
