Shape of nuclei described by algebraic hamiltonians

Abstract
A simple position operator is constructed from the degrees of freedom which occur in the Interacting Boson Model. This operator is used to compute the structure factor for the intrinsic states of nuclei described by the IBM. Fourier inversion leads to the probability distribution for the nuclear surface. From this a nuclear density profile, including mean surface position and skin thickness, can be constructed.
