Share governance and EBP: A logical partnership?
Nursing management, Vol.37(6)
01 Jun 2006
Abstract
The use of evidence-based practice (EBP) principles requires inquisitive professionals who aren't afraid to question the status quo. For more than a decade, Albert Einstein Medical Center has employed an organizational model using shared governance concepts that include authority, accountability, and responsibility. The earliest shared governance model consisted of a councilor structure comprised of Clinical Practice, Education, Research, Quality, and management Councils with a central Coordinating Council. Each council had unique responsibilities that worked in tandem with those of other councils to provide a seamless "shared governance" model. A Nursing Research Council was charged with integrating research concepts into the decision-making process of the Practice, Education, Quality, and management Councils.
