Abstract
A review of studies of geriatric falls reveals little information on which social or psychologic factors predispose an older person to fall or sustain a fall-related injury. Development of a systematic, multidisciplinary research program is suggested including epidemiologic studies of all falls and of medically treated falls. The psychologic consequences of falling are identified as an important additional research area.
