Abstract
Reviews the film, The Story of Luke directed by Alonso Mayo (2012). This film explores relationship issues in a young man with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who is on a quest for an independent life. Luke, played by Lou Taylor Pucci, finds his routine lifestyle disrupted when his grandmother and primary caretaker dies. This forces Luke and his grandfather to move in with Luke’s aunt and uncle. His grandfather is quickly shuttled off to a nursing home, leaving Luke with the parting advice to “become a man” by getting a job and a girl. Luke interprets these instructions literally and diligently searches for a respectable job and a potential girlfriend throughout this comedic drama. The Story of Luke is one of the few movies to consider the gamut of relationships for individuals with ASD. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
