State & local tax in accounting curricula: Empirical evidence

Abstract
Questionnaires were sent to 200 tax educators in an attempt to answer 4 research questions: 1. To what extent is state and local taxation included in accounting curricula? 2. Is the current coverage likely to change in the near future? 3. What amount of state and local taxation do tax educators believe accounting curricula should contain? 4. What tradeoffs are tax educators willing to make to alter state and local taxation coverage? The results show that state and local taxation coverage remains limited and that teaching material on that topic is believed to be inadequate. State and local taxation needs to be covered in textbooks.
