Students' Images of Scientists and Engineers
Bioscience, v 14(3), pp 20-23
01 Mar 1964
Abstract
The images of scientists and engineers held by junior-high and high-school students are an important factor in limiting the college enrollment in these fields. The results of many surveys lead to the conclusion that scientists and engineers exist as fairly well-defined stereotypes in student minds. A general dislike for science and mathematics courses is another deterrent in the selection of a science-related occupation. Other deterrents are observed, and suggestions for improving the student images are given.
