Abstract
The study of patterns of substance abuse has progressed towards giving particular attention to various special populations with distinctive treatment needs.Contributions to the understanding of substance abuse among individuals dually diagnosed as mentally ill, homeless people, adolescents, elderly individuals, or people at risk of human immunodeficiency virus infection are discussed.
