Suicide and unemployment: Predicting the smoothed trend and yearly fluctuations
The Journal of socio-economics, v 21(1), pp 39-41
1992
Abstract
This article extends previous studies of the association between unemployment and deviant behavior. It develops and tests a model for the prediction of the suicide rate using economic variables including the unemployment rate. It is found that both the unemployment rate and the female participation rate are powerful predictors of the suicide rate.
