Abstract
Disaster medicine is a developing field committed to patient and population care outside of traditional care situations.1 With the growth of the discipline, there has been professionalization and the establishment of specialty fellowships.2,3 Although the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) recognizes Emergency Medical Services (EMS) as a subspecialty of emergency medicine, disaster medicine has not yet achieved that status.4 As of October 2025, there are no Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited disaster medicine fellowships. Although programs such as emergency medicine residencies and EMS fellowships include aspects of disaster medicine, formal disaster medicine fellowships provide structured, advanced education for physicians who wish to become experts in this field.5,6 The study aims to describe and investigate the educational and organizational characteristics of disaster medicine fellowships based in the United States.
