Tapered optical fiber components and sensors
Microwave journal (International ed.), Vol.35(5), p218
01 May 1992
Abstract
Single-mode optical fiber components are being extensively used in couplers, wavelength filters, coaxial couplers, and mode transformers. The fiber sensors that can be created by tapering the single-mode optical fibers include coupler sensors, biconically tapered bend sensors, and evanescent wave sensors, where the transmission through the tapered region depends on the external medium's index of refraction. Attention is also given to tapered multimode optical fiber devices. (O.C.)
