Abstract
Purpose - To share information with global community about this anniversary conference and to promote the Stellenbosch Declaration.Design methodlogy approach - This is a conference report of the 8th IFIP World Conference on Computers in Education and describes four decades of development in human computer interaction and the use of computers in libraries and schools.Findings - There was general agreement that twenty-first century leaders and change agents must find new ways to merge the past, present, and future knowledge about learning, teaching, and technology to educate the new generation of learners.Originality value - A recap of progress in introducing computers in the classroom and the digital divide it often creates.
