Abstract

Electronic Technology Heroes Mass Media Effects Popular Culture Typology
Two major themes emerge from a review of various typologies of heroes: an emphasis on (1) a traditional-nontraditional dichotomy, & (2) a historical shift toward a greater number of nontraditional heroes. It is argued that the nontraditional hero type has expanded to include not only a greater number of heroes but many more subclassifications, a phenomenon primarily attributable to the rise of the electronic media. 1 Figure, 15 References.
