The Perioperative Experience of the Pediatric Patient
ASA monitor, v 89(4), pp 21-22
Apr 2025
Abstract
Almost 4 million children receive surgical care every year in the United States (Ped Anaesth 2020;30:1083-90). When it comes to children and surgery, the stakes feel higher, the questions grow bigger, and the need for creativity becomes immense. Managing their expectations goes beyond explaining needles and masks; it's about creating an environment where fears transform into trust. Even the smallest details contribute to a smoother experience for both patients and their families. After all, when the OR is designed to look less like a sterile procedure room and more like a rocket launch pad, kids might just feel ready to take flight. [1st paragraph]
