Abstract
The normalization constant
N, which is an essential quantity in the DWBA analysis of single- and two-nucleon transfer reactions, is evaluated for (
3He, d) and (
3H, d) stripping reactions. We use a velocity-dependent nucleon-nucleon potential and a

tri-nucleon wave function, which includes a state of mixed symmetry. Despite the smallness of its probability (taken to be 2% to allow for D-state contributions), the S′ state gives rise to large corrections in the value of
N as well as the binding energy and the Coulomb energy of the three-nucleon system. Our potential and three-body wave function are also used to investigate the relative amplitudes for singlet and triplet spin transitions in (
3H, p) reactions. A comparison is made between our results, those of Bassel and Rook and experiment.
