The Sanctuary Model of organizational change for children's residential treatment
Therapeutic communities, Vol.26(1), pp.61-78

Abstract
This paper describes the Sanctuary Model of organizational change as applied to children's residential treatment, a trauma-informed method for creating or changing an organizational culture in order to more effectively provide a cohesive context within which healing from psychological and social traumatic experience can be addressed. The theoretical underpinnings of the model are addressed, with an emphasis on the parallel process nature of chronic stress as seen in the behavior of children and of staff, as well as the organization as a whole. A description of the process involved in creating a healthier therapeutic community is described. Adapted from the source document.
