Abstract
Revisions in the criteria used to conduct AIDS surveillance in the US made by the CDC, in partnership with state and territorial health departments, reflect advances in the understanding and care of disease caused by the HIV virus. Changes in the definition for AIDS surveillance are discussed in an editorial.
