Abstract
Recombinant urate oxidase (rasburicase) was approved for the prevention and treatment of malignancy-associated hyperuricaemia in paediatrics by the US Food and Drug Administration in 2002. However, since then, there has been limited data to inform evidence-based practice for its administration. Current guidelines rely on expert opinion, and multiple published guidelines provide conflicting recommendations (Bertrand et al, 2008; Cairo et al, 2010; Agrawal & Feusner, 2011; Howard et al, 2011). As a first step in addressing this data gap we sought to understand rasburicase prescribing practices at children's hospitals throughout the United States.
