Abstract

Cognitive Neuroscience Criminal Behavior Human Legal Processes Violence
Reviews the book, Murder in the Courtroom: The Cognitive Neuroscience of Violence by Brigitte Vallabhajosula (see record 2015-06306-000). This work provides a concise but thorough look at neuroscience and brain structure and function as it relates to criminal behavior. The book also examines court cases to illustrate how neuroscience has previously been used in a variety of legal contexts. The book does a masterful job at providing the foundational and fundamental knowledge that is relevant to understanding how neuroscience is used (and misused) in the courtroom, and it accomplishes this important task in a manner that is accessible to a number of relevant audiences, including lawyers, mental health professionals, and potential jury members.
