Abstract
Not all P. gingivalis strains are equally virulent; strain-specific differences can substantially influence colonization, invasion, immune modulation and disease severity.Genetic diversity in virulence-associated systems including fimbriae, gingipains, capsular polysaccharides, lipopolysaccharides, nutrient acquisition pathways and regulatory networks underline the remarkable phenotypic heterogeneity observed among strains.Comparative genomic and functional studies are essential for identifying molecular signatures of virulence and may support the development of improved diagnostics, risk assessment tools and targeted therapeutic strategies.
