Visibility over Shorefront Sand Dunes: Maintaining an "Ocean View"
Shore and beach, v 72(4), pp 3-4
01 Jan 2004
Abstract
Coastal sand dunes can provide protection from coastal flooding and wave action; however, some coastal communities resist their construction because they hinder a view of the ocean from boardwalks and oceanfront homes. Since the level of wave protection depends primarily on the volume of sand contained within the dune and not directly on its height, a compromise might often be achieved that limits dune height or raises the eye level of the ocean observer.
