Visual Preview of the Environment for the Child With Low Vision

Abstract
Smith and Geruschat (1996) identified the following four phases of the assessment process: (a) reviewing clinical vision reports, (b) evaluating functional visual acuities and fields, (c) assessing the impact of environmental variables (e.g., the effects of glare or light adaptation) and (d) observing the use of functional vision in mobility situations (i. e., whether the person uses visual cues in a systematic, reliable manner in various environments). Monitor and Critique Visual Performance During the assessment and instructional phases, observe the student's natural head and eye movements from different positions to obtain the information necessary to help improve the student's performance.\n Students walk the route and compare their estimate with the actual number of times they encountered the object. Specialists can promote children's active participation and increase their motivation by involving them at different levels of game planning - from making choices about which games to play to creating games of their own that will serve the intended purpose.
