International journal of energy, environment, economics, Vol.22(2), pp.131-131
01 Mar 2014
Abstract
Utilization of wind energy in generation of electricity is growing at a fast rate due to the continued technological improvements that make wind turbines cheaper and more efficient resulting in reduction of the overall kWh generation cost. As such, a large emphasis in the current research and application studies is on the developing reliable and accurate wind energy assessment and analysis. The main objective of this chapter is to provide a comprehensive review of the most common used wind energy assessment and analysis methods, as well as the new developments and approaches for the wind energy potential analysis and assessment to identify and select the proper and best suited sites for wind energy generation and other data essential in designing and operations and management of wind energy power generation systems and wind farms. The chapter also includes up-to-date references for interested readers, instructors, students, practitioners and researchers.
