Abstract
By teaching literature from other cultures, students are exposed to cross-cultural awareness, interdependence and perspective consciousness and can possibly be empowered to make their own personal decisions and learn from others. Dyer discusses teaching the Canadian novel "Obasan" by Japanese-Canadian Joy Kogawa and its purpose in the classroom.
