Abstract
[...]the skills of reading and writing have taken precedence over speaking, listening, thinking, viewing, and representing. Hip-hop, then, carries the weight of the writer, the weight of the society in which it was written, and the weight of the reader coming to it. [...]when examining multiple viewpoints within a critical literacy framework, we believe there are three perspectives to consider-that of the author, that of the reader, and that of the popular discourse in the text's social context. Take Action/Promote Social Justice, Change The objectives and skills of critical literacy demand that teaching and learning occur within and beyond the classroom walls. [...]these middle level learners were invited to consider their own perspectives.
