Young's Modulus Determination Via Simple, Inexpensive Static and Dynamic Measurements
American journal of physics, v 41(5), pp 653-656
May 1973
Abstract
An extremely inexpensive, simple, dynamic modulus apparatus has been developed. The apparatus uses the various bending vibration resonances to determine Young's modulus. The moduli values for steel and balsa wood compare very favorably with the values obtained via static bending measurements and those obtained from the literature. The apparatus can be built for about ten dollars if an audio generator, an audio amplifier, and an oscilloscope are available.
