Abstract
In his response to Dean Laurence Bobo’s Harvard Crimson piece, “Faculty Speech Must Have Limits,” Keith Whittington does a masterful job in recounting the history of speech protections, issuing from faculty professional organizations, legal rulings, and academic institutions themselves, for faculty critical of their own institutions (“A Harvard Dean’s Assault on Faculty Speech,” The Chronicle Review, June 20) . Another aspect of Dean Bobo’s piece is equally troubling: its logic. [1st paragraph]
