Abstract
We appreciate Dr. Avery’s comments about our editorial. In Pennsylvania, nurse-midwifery is regulated not by the state board of nursing, but by the board of medicine. Nurse anesthesia is in a similar position, with many national nurse anesthesia programs housed not in colleges or schools of nursing, but often in colleges of allied health or sometimes affiliated with colleges of medicine. Therefore, the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists has not endorsed the doctor of nursing practice (DNP or DrNP) for entry level by 2015, but instead endorsed any doctoral preparation for entry level by 2025.
