Abstract
Large (6- to 9-mm) polymer spheres are formed by suspension polymerization using the magneto-Archimedes effect with no residual strain. A liquid monomer is suspended in a supporting liquid having a magnetic susceptibility larger than that of the monomer. A gradient magnetic field is applied to suspend monomer droplets. The droplets are shaped into a sphere through surface tension and then polymerized and solidified while suspended.
