Ternary carbide of titanium and silicon
Metal progress, Vol.152(1), pp.51-52
Jul 1997
Abstract
The ternary layered titanium silico-carbide is produced by reactive hot-pressing of titanium, silicon carbide and graphite powders. It has various properties that can be applied in components requiring high-temperature, high-strength and resistance to oxidation. It is refractive and invulnerable to thermal shock. The material's compressive strength at room temperature depends on grain size. It has a hardness of 4GPA and a Young's modulus of 320 GPa. Its application is most significant in structural design.
