Continued Resistance and Resilience After Dobbs

Abstract
In this introduction to a symposium about our 2025 book, After Dobbs: How the Supreme Court Ended Roe But Not Abortion, we discuss the contributions of the incredible group of academics participating: Professors Greer Donley, Rachel Rebouché, Kimberly Mutcherson, Cynthia Soohoo, Maya Manian, and Elizabeth Kukura. What we love about the collection of essays in this symposium from some of the legal academy’s top reproductive rights and justice scholars is that they broaden the scope of what we did with the book in brilliant and generative ways. We also note in this introduction what has changed -- and what hasn't -- in the year since the book was published. When we finished the book, we were scared of what the Trump administration would usher in with respect to abortion. While the worst of our fears has not (yet) happened, we remain in a precarious situation given the questions of sustainability we flagged in After Dobbs. However, as we approach the four year anniversary of the decision, we continue to believe what After Dobbs showed: that we will always bet on the resistance and resilience of abortion providers and patients.
